All on Four Dental Implant

All-On-4 VS Traditional Dental Implants

While traditional implant procedures remain a reliable solution for patients that have suffered any amount of tooth loss, All-on-4 does have several important advantages:

  • It typically does not require preparatory procedures such as bone grafts.
  • There is usually less recovery time required since fewer implants are used.
  • If temporary dentures can be placed, you won’t have to go without teeth for several months.

The Procedure

Before any treatment is started our dentist will examine you thoroughly to ensure that there is sufficient bone mass to provide an anchor for the posts.  At this point it may be necessary for you to have x-rays or CT scans to obtain the required information. Having either all on 4 or 6 dental implants is the procedure that will succeed due to the in depth planning and work that is done before the young implants are applied. We pride ourselves on our very high success rate with dental implant cases

  • Before you have the procedure a model of your teeth or how your teeth used to be will be made and can be improved and adjusted as you require
  • Once the procedure starts the dentist will make small cuts into the gumsfor the titanium posts to be introduced through
  • At this point a set of temporary teeth will be fitted to the implant
  • Once the dentist is satisfied that the bone has regenerated and that the wounds caused by the incisions are healed, treatment can go ahead
  • The final prosthesis will be attached after around 4-6 months.Dental implants are both functionally and aesthetically indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Care After Implant

Caring for your newly inserted implants is not difficult. You will continue to clean with a normal standard toothbrush and to floss your teeth. You will be instructed fully on how to care for your new implanted teeth.  You will also need to come for regular cheque ups so that the dentist can cheque your mouth and that the implants are all fine.

The Cost of Dental Implnats for All-on-Four

There is no doubt that implants for the full mouth can completely change lives improving the enjoyment and restoring confidence. However this procedure should only be carried out by those who have the highest level of expertise and the skill required. The cost of this procedure therefore reflects these facts and implants – all on 4 as a full mouth tooth replacement starts from about £12,000.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

You Have Missing Teeth

There are many reasons you might lose teeth. Common causes of tooth loss include periodontal disease and facial trauma. Dental implants are a solution for tooth loss. Implants are an incredibly versatile solution, too. They can replace a single missing tooth, several missing teeth, or even an entire arch of missing teeth. Dental implants may also be discussed if you need to have one or more teeth extracted.

You Are Healthy

To get dental implants, you need to undergo surgery. To be cleared to get surgery, you have to be in good health. Certain health conditions, including heart disease and diabetes, can impact your candidacy. Just because you have one of these conditions, however, this does not mean you cannot get implants. The condition will first need to be well-controlled. Placing implants when your condition is not well-managed can cause complications during surgery as well as during recovery. It can also impact the success of the treatment.

In addition to your overall health, your oral health also plays a role. If you have any oral health conditions, such as periodontal disease or cavities, these conditions will need to be treated. Otherwise, your risks for infections and implant failure increase significantly.

Your Jawbone Is In Good Shape

The condition of your jawbone plays a significant role in your candidacy for implants. Your jawbone fuses to the implant posts as you heal, stabilizing them so they can provide secure support for your replacement teeth. However, after tooth loss, your jawbone begins to lose bone mass and weaken. If you lose too much bone mass, your jawbone cannot fuse to the implant posts properly, or at all. This can result in loose implant posts or total implant failure.

If your jawbone is too weak during your initial consultation, you may be recommended for a bone graft. This is a surgical procedure that involves transplanting bone material from another area of your body, or a compatible donor, to the weak areas of your jawbone. Once healed from this surgery, we can begin the implant process.

You Are An Adult

You are never too old for dental implants. Many older patients mistakenly believe that they are too old to enjoy the many benefits that implants have to offer. This just is not true. So long as you meet other requirements, it does not matter how old you are. It is important to keep in mind, though, that you can be too young.

Dental implants are not recommended for children or teens who lose a permanent tooth. This is because the jawbone is still growing and developing. It continues to do so until your late teens to early 20s. Placing an implant in an underdeveloped jaw can cause complications. If your child has lost a permanent tooth, another treatment, such as a bridge, should be used. Once the jaw has stopped growing, your child can then consider getting an implant.

You Do Not Drink Or Smoke

During your initial consultation, you will be questioned about your lifestyle habits, particularly your drinking and tobacco habits. Alcohol use can affect the ability of your blood to clot, which can cause issues during surgery. Smoking and other tobacco products can affect oxygen in your blood and slow your blood flow. This can slow the healing process, which greatly increases your risk of infections.

Additionally, cigarettes and other tobacco products can interfere with your immune system, which also increases your infection risk. Alcohol and tobacco use do not mean you cannot get implants. You will be recommended to quit these habits before surgery. Quitting for good is ideal. However, if you are unable to quit smoking completely, you should at least quit for the duration of your treatment.

Dental Implants Steps

Are you getting ready for a dental implant? Make sure you take a look at this guide to learn about the dental implant steps and what you can expect…. When you get dental implants, you are replacing the tooth roots with tooth posts made of metal. These dental posts are like screws for artificial teeth. Implants are a little different than some bridges or crowns because they function and look like real teeth.

How your dentist performs the dental procedure depends on the implant you need, if you have any allergic reaction, and the condition of the jawbone. You may have to have several dental procedures so that your bone can heal properly around the implant. This healing could take time but will support the new tooth securely.

Step 1: Initial Evaluation

Your dentist or oral surgeon will first do a comprehensive examination to determine the best to determine the condition of your jawbone and the best dental implant procedure. This initial evaluation includes X-rays, taking impressions, and matching the color of your teeth to make your implant look as natural as possible.

You will determine how many teeth you want to replace with implants, which could take some additional planning with other dental specialists, like periodontists, depending on your oral health condition.

You will also discuss all your medical conditions and medications. Depending on your condition or orthopedic implants, you may need to take antibiotics before the surgery to avoid infection.

Step 2: Tooth Extraction

If you still have a remaining tooth that needs replacing, your dentist will remove it before the dental work is performed. You can have this done at the same time as the implant insertion.

Your dentist will discuss anesthesia options. Most likely, your dentist will use a local anesthetic of novocaine (or lidocaine) to feel numb and take away any pain. It shouldn’t take long to remove the tooth unless it’s fractured.

You will just feel a little tug and pressure while the tooth is extracted. After you get the extraction, you should avoid blowing your nose, smoking, spitting excessively, or drinking through a straw. These actions can create a dry socket and pain.

Step 3: Inserting the Dental Implant and Bone Grafting

There are two types of dental implants : one where the implant is inserted into your jawbone and the other that goes directly under the gumline. Let’s discuss if you have the implant added to your jawbone. If your current jawbone is strong and thick enough, you may not need to get any extra bone added.

Your jaw needs to be strong because there is a lot of pressure when you chew, and you need your bone to be strong to protect that implant. If your jaw needs some extra bone, this bone typically comes from another area of your jawbone away from the implant area.

You may have to let the bone heal first if you have a graft before you can add the implant. Once the bone heals, the dentist or surgeon will add the implant.

After the implant is added to your jawbone, the jawbone will begin to grow around the implant. The implant then becomes part of your natural gum line. This process varies by person and can take anywhere from 3 to 9 months.

Step 4: Abutment Placement

Once your implant is stable enough, the dentist will place an abutment on top of the implant. This piece connects the implant to your crown. The abutment needs to be tightened so it stays in place when you eat.

You will not feel anything during this procedure other than a little pressure. You will get local anesthesia to that area.

Sometimes the abutment can be placed at the same time as the implant since it goes past the gum line. It will be visible, so you will need to discuss how to mask this piece since it will show when you smile. The dentist will add a healing cap to keep the tissue and bone from growing overtop of the abutment.

Step 5: Adding the Permanent Crown

After your gums heal, your dentist will make your artificial tooth or crown. You can choose to have a removable implant or permanent. If you are having multiple teeth in the back just like removable dentures, you may want the removable option so you can clean and replace if needed.

You can’t remove a fixed implant to replace or to clean. It is permanently screwed in the abutment or glued down with cement.

Some Discomfort

It’s natural to have some discomfort after the surgery. You may notice some bruising on your gums, swelling around your gums and face, some minor bleeding, and some pain at the implant site.

Consuming

You should stock up on some soft foods after the surgery. You may also want to have some ice packs on hand to help reduce any swelling. Avoid tobacco because it could increase your chance of infections, such as root canal infections, and stain your teeth. We also offer root canal treatment.

Good hygiene

It’s important that you keep up good hygiene habits to protect this implant. That means flossing daily and brushing your teeth twice a day. Avoid chewing hard candies that could damage your implants.

We utilize cutting-edge 3D imaging techniques to expertly assess which treatment option(s) will be right for you. Using the 3D image of your jaw, we evaluate bone quality, volume & quantity. Virtually 95% of patients, with or without teeth, are candidates for the All-on-4 procedure. We also perform virtual surgery before you are in the chair – meaning you will be able to see your results before the surgery, and each pre-planned step will be executed with the utmost precision.

Our method eliminates this line in most patients. As part of your initial examination, we evaluate your smile to determine where the junction of the fixed bridge and the jaw bone will be. During the All-on-4 procedure, we make adjustments to ensure that your new smile is not too “gummy” and that the edge of your bridge is completely hidden.

The All-on-4 technique is fairly new, and not all dentists are comfortable performing this procedure. The Advanced Periodontics team are All-on-4 specialists, and have been performing the procedure since it became available. Other more traditional treatments can sometimes be a viable option as well. In some cases, All-on-4 is a better treatment option. When you come in for a consultation, we evaluate your condition and make a custom diagnosis to see what option/method is the best treatment for you.

Because of the hidden metal framework that we are able to include in our prefabrication process, your new teeth will be strong and stable. You will be able to eat most foods right away except for hard, brittle or chewy foods. You will be able to return to a regular diet within 6-10 weeks.

I was told I would need bone grafting to “build up” the bone before any implants could be placed. Does the All-on-4 Procedure involve bone grafting?

In the majority of cases, we are able to place 4 implants and restore a full arch of teeth without bone grafting. We use computer guided techniques, which allow us to plan the exact placement of each implant at an angle to make maximum use of the existing bone, avoiding bone grafting.

Published studies show a 98.2% success rate when using the All-on-4 technique in the lower jaw. Other studies show a 97- 98% success in the upper jaw for the same procedure. Occasionally, an implant will fail. Knowing this, we carefully evaluate bone quality and quantity prior to your procedure, and will place six implants if we feel it is a necessary precaution, making our success rate even higher.

Your new teeth will be crafted by certified professional lab technicians. We will make sure that you are pleased with the results by giving you the time to look over the teeth and make changes as needed.

Dental implants should be treated like your natural teeth, daily brushing and flossing is recommended. Our dental hygienists will review oral hygiene instructions with you and will recommend the most appropriate oral hygiene treatment plan to fit your needs.

The All-On-4 procedure utilizes only 4 implants to replace all teeth on an upper arch, whereas traditional implants utilize anywhere from 5 to 8 implants in one arch. The angled placement of the posterior implants of the All-On-4 procedure allow for increased support by using the natural support of your bone. Also, traditional implants often require bone grafting, a process that can take 6 months or more. The All-On-4 Dental protocol requires no bone grafting for most patients, with a success rate that is equal to or better than traditional implants.

The all-on-4 procedure can save you from unnecessary surgery and discomfort, as well as time and money!

We use computer guided planning & we perform computer guided surgery, all before your procedure. This allows the highest level of precision, saves you time in the chair, and allows for your teeth to be pre-manufactured. In other words, there will be no need for a lab & no wait after your procedure; you will leave with your new teeth on that very same visit. This technique can be used for both patients with a few teeth remaining or patients with all teeth missing. What’s more, with our prefabrication method, we are able to include a hidden metal framework in your bridge, making your new teeth much stronger and longer-lasting. If we find it necessary (due to lack of bone quality or quantity), we will use 6 or 8 implants instead of 4, to ensure the strength and longevity of your new teeth.

Most of the time, 4 implants are used. If we find it to be necessary after accessing the specific situation, we will use 6 or 8 implants to ensure the strength and longevity of your new teeth. To read more about the situations in which each procedure would be needed, click here. We will perform the procedure that is best for your specific needs in order to provide you with the longest lasting, premium teeth.

The All-on-4 surgery is virtually painless. After the numbness wears off, the patient will experience a little swelling and soreness that will last a few days. Many patients return to their normal routine (work, etc.) 1-2 days after their surgery. This time is needed not because of pain, but because they need to adjust to the presence of their new teeth, as it may slightly affect their speech.

After your initial consultation and diagnostic procedures (CT scan, etc.), your implants and new teeth will be placed all in one appointment, even if you need extractions. With All-on-4, you arrive at our office with bad (or no) teeth, and leave the very same day with a beautiful set of fixed, functional teeth.

The cost of an All-On-4 Procedure varies from patient to patient. We offer a complimentary consultation to evaluate the patient in order to give them a better idea of the total cost. Payment plans can be set up, interest free. All-On-4 is an investment that will leave you with a beautiful, new smile for the rest of your life!

Absolutely. The All-on-4 dental implant technique gives you permanent teeth that look, feel and function just like real teeth. No one will know you have implants unless you tell them.

All-on-4 implants can be placed on just the upper or lower arch. Your dentist will evaluate your circumstance and if he or she feels you might eventually need replacement teeth on both the upper and lower arches, he or she might suggest performing the procedure on both arches at the same time. This provides better results while also saving time and money. Your doctor will work with you to determine what best meets your needs both health wise and cost wise.

Traditional dental implant treatments require the placement of 8 or more implants per arch. And for those who choose not to do anything about their missing teeth, failing teeth or loose dentures, the cost is much higher; in pain, embarrassment, cleaning and adhesive products, and overall health. When you calculate the costs, in dollars and cents, healing time, and personal and emotional well being, the All-on-4 (AO4) dental implant procedure ranks superior. It saves money. It saves time. It reduces anxiety. It reduces healing time. And it alleviates the emotional stress brought upon by not liking how you look or feel. In most cases, with the All-on-4 procedure you can be eating and drinking things you never could before. And you’ll look good doing it!

The All-on-4 dental implant procedure is recommended for people with failing teeth, no teeth, those currently wearing dentures, and those in need of full upper and/or lower restorations. The procedure utilizes as few as four implants (remember, traditional procedures require 6-8 or more) and a full set of new implant-supported replacement teeth per arch, which you usually get in just one clinical appointment. This saves time and money, reduces healing time, and gives you a whole lot to smile about.
